Waste Watch: Biden’s Border Crisis Edition

The Waste Watch is a newsletter exposing wasteful federal government spending and brought to you by the House Committee on Oversight and Reform Republicans.

President Biden and Vice President Harris haven’t spent a second at the border, but they are spending hundreds of millions in taxpayer dollars to reward political allies.

This Administration’s open borders policies created a crisis at our southern border and now they appear to be funneling massive, no-bid contracts to an organization linked to their transition team.

In April, Ranking Member James Comer and House Committee on Homeland Security Ranking Member John Katko, along with Republicans on both panels, wrote U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Secretary Xavier Becerra regarding a “massive, sole source contract” awarded to Family Endeavors, Inc. to help manage the surge of unaccompanied minors at the border.

The questionable contract was awarded after a member of the Biden-Harris Transition team started working there, and it amounts to more than 12 times the annual budget of the nonprofit.

The decision to award a massive amount of taxpayer dollars to Endeavors raises many questions including how an organization with little experience caring for unaccompanied minors could win a non-compete contract.

THAT’S NOT ALL…

Ranking Member James Comer, House Judiciary Committee Ranking Member Jim Jordan, and Congressman Tom McClintock sent letters to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, the Department of Health and Human Services, and Endeavors, Inc raising concerns about additional no-bid contracts awarded to Endeavors, including the $87 billion contract awarded by ICE to house migrant families.

NEW DEVELOPMENT…

The Department of Homeland Security Office of the Inspector General has launched an investigation into the Biden Administration’s suspicious no-bid contract awarded to Endeavors Inc.

There are serious concerns about the award process, the nonprofit’s ability to meet the contract needs, and the link to the Biden-Harris Transition Team.

IN OTHER NEWS…

The Biden Border Crisis continues to spiral out of control.

The Biden Administration has now diverted more than $2 billion taxpayer dollars allocated for health initiatives, including pandemic relief, toward covering the costs of caring for the surge of unaccompanied alien children (UAC) at the southwest border.

Following the diversion of $2.1 billion, Ranking Member James Comer, House Committee on Ways and Means Ranking Member Kevin Brady, and Representatives Jackie Walorski and Mike Kelly sent a letter inquiring about HHS’s plan to compensate for the loss of funds allocated for critical pandemic-related expenses.

Answers to the lawmakers’ questions are essential to help Congress understand how HHS is managing the unaccompanied children in its care and what impact the agency’s decisions will have on federal government operations and Congressional appropriations.

Migrants have made it clear they are coming to the United States because of President Biden’s open border policies. The American people should not be expected to continue throwing their money at a problem President Biden created.

It’s past time Oversight Democrats hold this administration accountable for the humanitarian and national security crisis unfolding at the border.
