Chaffetz Statement on Iran Vote

WASHINGTON—House Oversight and Government Reform Committee Chairman Jason Chaffetz (R-UT) released the following statement today after recording a NO vote on H.R. 3461, a measure to approve the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action, signed at Vienna on July 14, 2015, relating to the nuclear program of Iran.

“This is a bad deal.  It gives Iran everything it wants – time and money. The threat posed by Iran is real. Iran has clearly stated its intention of building a nuclear bomb. I believe them. The President’s deal has no hope of achieving the intended goal of dismantling Iran’s illicit nuclear program.  It reverses decades of bipartisan U.S. policy, removes Security Council resolutions against Iran’s nuclear program, and endorses Iran as a nuclear threshold state. It puts Iran on the fast-track for producing nuclear weapons on an industrial scale.  The deal provides Iran with all the resources it needs to continue its terrorist ambitions. Nothing good will come from this deal and the President was wrong to enter into this agreement. Domestic and global security are at stake. Fundamentally, the deal makes the U.S. less safe, not more safe.  The deal must be rejected.”
