Chairman Chaffetz Announces Promotions of Key Staff

Names new Dept. Staff Director, General Counsel and others

WASHINGTON–Today, House Oversight and Government Reform Committee Chairman Jason Chaffetz (R-UT) announced promotions for key members on the committee staff, after naming Jonathan Skladany as Staff Director last week:

  • Rebecca Edgar as Deputy Staff Director, formerly Communications Director;
  • Liam McKenna as General Counsel, formerly Senior Counsel;
  • MJ Henshaw as Communications Director and Press Secretary, formerly Press Secretary; and
  • Alexa Armstrong as Legislative Director, formerly Professional Staff Member.

“Each of these individuals exemplify what it means to be a good, hard working public servant for the American taxpayer. We are fortunate to have excellent, top-notch staffers working for this committee. Their knowledge and expertise are unmatched and I am thrilled to begin the 115th Congress with them at my side,” Chairman Chaffetz said.

Background:

Rebecca Edgar joined the committee staff in February 2015, where she led a team responsible for developing communications strategies that help to advance the mission of the committee. Prior to joining the committee, Rebecca served as Chief of Staff at a DC-based global government relations and public affairs firm.

Liam McKenna joined the committee staff in April 2016, where he worked with the Information Technology Subcommittee. Prior to joining the committee, Liam was Chief Counsel for Homeland Security on the Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs, under Chairman Ron Johnson and, before that, Ranking Member Tom Coburn.

MJ Henshaw began working as Press Secretary for the committee in 2015. Before coming to the committee, she worked in Chaffetz’s personal office for two and a half years as Press Secretary. Prior to that, MJ spent over four years working for members of the Idaho delegation in both the House and Senate. She will continue to serve as a shared staffer handling press inquiries for both the personal office as well as the committee.

Alexa Armstrong joined the committee staff in June 2012, where she worked for the full committee’s investigations team, the Subcommittee on Government Operations, and with the Subcommittee on National Security. In her previous role, Alexa worked on legislative issues including inspectors general empowerment, federal real property disposal, and postal reform.
