Chairman Chaffetz Statement on Keystone Pipeline Rejection

House Oversight and Government Reform Committee Chairman Jason Chaffetz (R-UT) released the following statement today, after the Obama administration rejected the construction of the Keystone XL pipeline:

“Today’s decision by the president, while disappointing, is not surprising. I fundamentally disagree with the president’s politically motivated decision. This administration ignores the fact that the pipeline will create thousands of jobs for the American people, while increasing North American energy independence. This is a routine infrastructure project that should have been approved long ago.”

Background:

On July 8th, the Oversight Committee issued a subpoena to Secretary of State John Kerry to provide all reports, recommendations, letters, and comments received by the State Department from the advising agencies pursuant to Executive Order 13337 regarding the permit for the Keystone XL pipeline. This subpoena follows letters to the Department on February 24th and June 15th requesting the same documents.
