Chairman Issues Subpoena for Unedited Planned Parenthood Videos

WASHINGTON—Today, the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee issued a subpoena to the Center for Medical Progress (CMP) for all unedited video footage in their possession relating to the acquisition, preparation, and sale of fetal tissue. CMP is prevented from releasing footage due to a lawsuit filed by the National Abortion Federation to keep the videos out of the public domain.

Chairman Jason Chaffetz (R-UT) released the following statement regarding the subpoena:

“Planned Parenthood and the National Abortion Federation want to hide their activities from the American people.  This subpoena is a demand for transparency. The action of the court will not thwart or impede Congress’ Constitutional duty and right to conduct effective oversight. The Committee will continue its investigation into funding for Planned Parenthood and will hold a hearing on federal funding for the organization later this month.”

Background:

As part of its investigation into Planned Parenthood, the Committee sent a letter on September 9 to the Center for Medical Progress requesting all unedited video footage relating to the acquisition, preparation, and sale of fetal tissue. Further information regarding the Committee’s investigation can be found here.
