Comer Blasts Rules Package: “Democrats Prioritize Power Over People”

WASHINGTON—House Committee on Oversight and Reform Ranking Member James Comer (R-Ky.) blasted today’s passage of the Democrats’ rules for the House of Representatives during the 117th Congress:

“The Democrats’ rules for this Congress reveal their top priority is political power, not the American people. Not only does the rules package stifle free speech and contain ridiculous left-wing ideas such as banning the use of gender-based pronouns and terms like mother and father, it contains sweeping provisions that allow Democrat committee chairs to unilaterally reissue subpoenas before a committee even forms its membership and oversight rules. This provides Democrats with new and unprecedented authority and denies the American people an opportunity to have their voices heard through their elected representatives who haven’t yet been assigned to committees. It’s clear Democrats don’t want to withstand any scrutiny for their decisions.

“Americans deserve better. Our government does not rest in the Democrat Party; it rests in We the People. House Republicans will continue to fight against the Democrats’ power grabs and advance policies that protect freedom and Americans’ interests.”
