Comer Named Ranking Member of the House Committee on Oversight and Reform for the 117th Congress

WASHINGTON—House Committee on Oversight and Reform Ranking Member James Comer (R-Ky.) today issued the following statement after he was selected to continue serving as Ranking Member in the 117th Congress.

“I am honored to continue serving Kentucky’s 1st Congressional District and the American people as the Ranking Member of the Committee on Oversight and Reform. Throughout my time in public service, I have been committed to holding accountable those who misuse taxpayer dollars and engage in corruption. Oversight Republicans will continue working on behalf of Americans to ensure the efficiency, effectiveness, and accountability of the federal government and provide a check and balance on the role and power of Washington.

“Unfortunately, Democrats have failed to conduct credible oversight of government waste, fraud, and abuse and have instead launched partisan attacks against President Trump. As Ranking Member, Oversight Republicans will keep their eye on the ball, knowing that we ultimately report to hard working taxpayers to ensure their investment in government is spent wisely. We will work to identify problems, hold the federal government accountable, propose common-sense reforms, and ensure the federal government is transparent, effective, and efficient.”

The Committee on Oversight and Reform is the principal oversight committee of the U.S. House of Representatives and has broad authority to investigate “any matter” at “any time” under House Rule X.
