Comer, Norman Blast Democrats’ Radical Green New Deal Legislation

Today, House Committee on Oversight and Reform Ranking Member James Comer (R-Ky.) and Environment Subcommittee Ranking Member Ralph Norman (R-S.C.) released the following statements on the Democrats’ plan to reintroduce the Green New Deal: 

“The Green New Deal is a socialist super-package which will only saddle hard-working taxpayers with debt and displace millions of Americans from their jobs. Under the Trump Administration, we saw economic growth, job creation, and environmental benefits from policies that encouraged energy innovation and American ingenuity. America became a global leader in carbon emissions reduction by championing the free market and the Green New Deal threatens that progress with socialist priorities. Democrats will stop at nothing to push their progressive pet projects on the American people. This week, Democrats are rushing an unconstitutional bill to grant D.C. statehood so they can pack the U.S. Senate with two progressive senators to pass radical legislation, like the Green New Deal. These radical ideas must be rejected by Congress,” said Ranking Member Comer.  

“True to its name, the Green New Deal is the most amateurish resolution in recent memory. This legislation would change every aspect of American life – what we eat, how we travel, how we stay warm, and even what jobs we can take. This is no way to govern. Simply put – The Green New Deal is an attempt to disguise socialism in the name of environmental protections,” said Environment Subcommittee Ranking Member Norman.
