Gowdy Calls on White House, Agencies to Produce Documents on Private Email Use
WASHINGTON – Today, the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee continued its ongoing investigation into government-wide abuse of the Federal and Presidential Records Acts (FRA) (PRA), as Chairman Trey Gowdy (R-SC) sent letters to 16 federal agencies and the White House following-up on the Committee’s September 25, 2017 request for documents.
Additionally, the letter to the White House includes details from a staff briefing given by White House lawyers to Committee staff.
Excerpts from the White House letter:
“It was also brought to our attention that certain allegations of recordkeeping noncompliance are under review, and when the review is completed your office will be following up with the Committee in response to the Committee’s September 25 request. Those questions are at the core of the Committee’s interest and we appreciate your commitment to share the findings of the internal review as soon as practicable.”
Excerpts from the Agency Non-Compliance letter:
“We requested you provide these documents and information to the Committee no later than 5:00 p.m. on October 9, 2017. That time has passed and we have not received sufficient communication from your department.”
“If you have not complied with the request or satisfactorily provided a good faith commitment for complying in full on or before October 26, 2017, the Chairman intends to issue a subpoena for the materials.”
