Hice: Inspector General Must Investigate Biden Administration Efforts to Purge CFPB Staff

Raises alarms over potential efforts to create patronage system

WASHINGTON—Today, Subcommittee on Government Operations Ranking Member Jody Hice (R-Ga.) called for an urgent investigation into reports that the Biden Administration is targeting certain career civil servants at the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB). In his letter to the Inspector General of the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve and Consumer Federal Protection Bureau, Hice raises alarms that CFPB is targeting career employees from the previous administration in order to replace them with new Biden Administration hires to create a patronage system.

“The hypocrisy of the Biden Administration is rearing its ugly head. The Consumer Federal Protection Bureau seems to be trying to create a patronage system by reportedly targeting career employees who served under President Trump. It seems they believe any career civil servant who worked under President Trump at CFPB must be replaced with hires selected by Biden Administration officials. The federal government is not a patronage system. It is supposed to be merit based. The inspector general must launch an investigation to stop this abuse,” said Subcommittee Ranking Member Hice.
