Issa: Administration Should Vigorously Defend De-Funding of ACORN?
House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform Ranking Member Darrell Issa (R-CA) assailed Judge Nina Gershon’s ruling to impose a preliminary injunction on the continuing resolution enacted by Congress that bars ACORN and its affiliates, subsidiaries, and allied organizations from receiving federal funding from the government.

Politico: Judge: ACORN funding restored
A judge in New York ordered that ACORN’s federal funding be temporarily restored, rolling back a slew of Congressional actions that sought to stop taxpayer money from flowing to the community group on the heels of a fall full of embarrassments for it. Nina Gershon, a district judge in New York, issued a preliminary injunction directing the department of Housing and Urban Development, the Office of Management and Budget and the Treasury department to disregard a bill signed into law by President Obama that prohibited federal funding of the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now.
Republicans are already hammering away at the decision. Rep. Darrell Issa (R-Calif.), a longtime critic of ACORN and author of a report on the group’s problems, framed Gershon as an “activist judge” appointed by former President Bill Clinton. “This left-wing activist Judge is setting a dangerous precedent that left-wing political organizations plagued by criminal accusations have a constitutional entitlement to taxpayer dollars,” Issa said in a news release. “The Obama administration should immediately move to appeal this injunction.”
The Hill: Judge stops ACORN funding ban
A federal judge today issued an injunction preventing the implementation of a congressional ban on funding for ACORN. Judge Nina Gershon concluded that the ban amounted to a “bill of attainder” that unfairly singled out ACORN. Rep. Darrell Issa (R-Calif.), ranking member of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, issued a statement criticizing Gershon’s decision and noting that she was appointed by Bill Clinton. “This left-wing activist Judge is setting a dangerous precedent that left-wing political organizations plagued by criminal accusations have a constitutional entitlement to taxpayer dollars,” Issa said. “The Obama Administration should immediately move to appeal this injunction.”
Delaware State Public Integrity Commission Confirms Illegal Lobbying by ACORN
The Delaware State Public Integrity Commission responded to a letter of inquiry sent by Issa revealing that “no person has ever registered to represent any of the ACORN affiliates identified in the Committee’s letter” and that after being notified that a “lobbyist must register” they had yet to do so while still engaging in lobbying activities.
The Public Integrity Commission has subsequently sent a certified letter to Delaware ACORN “stating that the law provides that the Public Integrity Commission can refer suspected violations of the lobbying law to the Attorney General for investigation and prosecution. The matter will be on the Commission’s agenda for its December 15, 2009 meeting.”
