Issa Statement on $3.2 Billion in New Postal Service Losses

WASHINGTON- Today, the United States Postal Service announced that it lost $3.2 billion in the second quarter of this fiscal year- $1 billion more than the same quarter last year.

Rep. Darrell Issa, R-Calif., chairman of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, offered the following statement:

“The USPS needs responsible legislative action to restore long-term solvency, preserve delivery of mail, and protect taxpayers from footing the bill for a bailout. While the measure approved by the Senate failed to achieve these benchmarks, the House of Representatives will advance a comprehensive postal reform bill that protects the long-term interests of postal customers. Today’s announcement underscores the urgency and seriousness of the situation.”
