Issa Writes to 75 IG’s Regarding Unimplemented Recommendations That Could Save Taxpayers $26 Billion

WASHINGTON. D.C. – House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform Ranking Member Darrell Issa (R-CA) has sent letters to 75 Inspectors General (IG’s) requesting an update regarding thousands of open and unimplemented recommendations made by the Oversight and Government Reform Committee that could save taxpayers $26 billion.  The recommendations were included in a report released last January by then-Chairman Henry Waxman (D-CA) entitled, “Inspectors General:  Implementing Thousands of Open Recommendations Could Save Taxpayers Almost $26 Billion.

“One of the top priorities for the Committee on Oversight and Government Reform is to eliminate waste, fraud and abuse in the operations of the federal government,” Issa wrote.  “Each year your office identifies potential reforms that, if implemented, would allow your agency to run more effectively.  Our Committee is obligated to ensure your office has sufficient resources to fulfill that mandate.”

Specifically, Issa has requested that the IG’s provide the Committee with the current number of open and unimplemented recommendations, the cost savings that can be obtained from implementing those recommendations and a prioritization of the outstanding unimplemented obligations with the IG’s plan to address them moving forward.
