Oversight Chairman Issa Statement on Retirement of OIRA Administrator Sunstein

WASHINGTON — Oversight and Government Reform Committee Chairman Darrell Issa (R-CA) today released the following statement regarding the announcement that Office of Information and Regulatory Affairs Administrator (OIRA) Cass Sunstein was retiring from government service later this month:

“While I’m disappointed that this Administration has not made more substantial efforts to cut red tape and create jobs, outgoing Administrator Cass Sunstein appeared to recognize the harm overly burdensome regulations inflict on economic growth and job creation—although he was not able to stop the tsunami of regulations enacted by the Obama Administration.

“As the Oversight Committee has documented—and job creators and the public have repeatedly reported to us and in surveys—government regulations continue to be the top challenge facing new investment, business expansion and entrepreneurship.  Until we address these overhanging challenges, our growth will continue to be stagnant and the federal rulemaking process will continue to be exploited by special interests more concerned with narrow agendas than with job creation.

“I wish Administrator Sunstein well as he returns to teaching and appreciate his service.”
